I just changed my major. Actually, I put in the form yesterday, checked today, and it was changed. While I was looking around to see what classes I need to maybe probably try to take next term, I looked at the program evaluation sheet and realized that only two of the classes I’ve taken in the last 3 years are even on the page. The rest – all 13 or so of them – fall under the ominous heading of “other courses.”
Cue the writing of a frantic e-mail, composed of a run on sentence that reads a little something like “I was just kidding about that form I didn’t think this through I take it back PLEASE, IT WAS JUST A JOKE.”
I did not send that e-mail. I did save it to re-write though, because guys, three years and only 8 credit hours toward a degree is a little rough to think about. Every other time I’ve changed majors (this is the sixth time, because it has never been as simple as declaring myself undeclared), everything transferred. English wasn’t working out, so I transferred back to Programming, which I was close to being done with because I’d started it in 2005. It was my fall back for when I decided I couldn’t handle being told how to feel about “Death of a Salesman” one more time without exploding.
Apparently I needed a fall back for my fall back.
But this is okay now, sort of, because I do not have to sit through anymore three hour night classes with a teacher who succeeds in teaching me nothing but how to hate myself when I could be doing something more fulfilling. Like sleeping. Or watching Law and Order.

Changing majors for sixth time? That’s a record! Well, then, good luck!

Some Universities (theres one here in Canada) that offers that so in case you dont like your main one, you can focus on your 2nd one.. But if you dont like either one, I guess you gotta start over fresh. On a depressing note, just because you did engineering for 4-5 years in university doesnt meant thats what youll end up doing in the real world… So you may have changed majors so many times but are you sure that whatever you pick as your major right now will end up the career that you wanna go into?

At uni here it’s not so easy to change your major depending on what degree you’re doing, and when I started my degree we didn’t even have sub majors. The only thing you could do is get a double degree, which IMO is a better option anyway. Good luck getting it all sorted

Good luck with all the major changes. I can’t wait to start college and go through all the stress. I’ve been saying that for about 3 years now. =(
Posted 27 Feb 2008 at 8:14 pm ¶oh yes, sleep is definitely preferable to going to class. I would have to agree with that. We have a different uni system here in australia, so other than what I’ve learned from playing Sims 2 University, I’m not all that familiar with majors and being undeclared and such. but I hope it works out for you, and you get more credit hours
Posted 03 Mar 2008 at 8:30 am ¶Wow! Well, I hope you figure this out. Because losing all that time due to classes not counting isn’t fun at all. I changed my major halfway through college and ended up having to stay an extra year to take additional courses that I didn’t have yet. Not fun.
