For a long time, I’ve wanted a garden but been too afraid of killing it to take any steps toward planting one. This year I spurred my family into action and we ended up with two raised beds and some hanging tomato plants.

We ended up with a lot of potatoes, green beans, broccoli and zucchini. Our corn was pretty much a failure, but that’s okay, and the tomatoes are still not totally there. We’ve emptied the garden of quite a bit already – the only things (other than the tomatoes) still doing reasonably well are the peppers and the zucchini (which I’m tired of, because zucchini bread is only good so many times).

I’ve been planting some fall vegetables, and can’t wait for them to grow. There’s something about growing your own food that is fulfilling, even though it’s a lot of work. I’m hoping for an even bigger garden next year.
